Less than 3 miles from where Michael Brown was killed in Ferguson, another young black man was gunned down by police this afternoon in North St. Louis.
As anger erupted again on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri, a human rights team from Amnesty International worked on the ground in the US for the first time ever.
Confrontation flared up after an autopsy found that Michael Brown, an unarmed teenager who was fatally shot by an officer on 9 August, had suffered at six bullet wounds including one in the top of his head.
Eye-witnesses report seeing police, with no visible ID badges, hurling tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters and threatening members of the press in another night of demonstrations.
Amnesty International, said it would be observing police and protester activity and gathering testimonies as well as training local activists “on methods of non-violent protest” in an “unprecedented” move by the campaigners.
Amnesty International USA’s Executive Director, Steven W Hawkins said that the “people of Ferguson have the right to protest peacefully the lack of accountability for Michael Brown’s shooting”.
Jasmine Heiss, one of the 13-strong team sent by Amnesty, told Buzzfeed that the limits placed on the organisation’s access to post-curfew areas was indicative of “the overall lack of transparency in this investigation”.
Complex Magazine said that police had opened fire into the crowds without warning three hours before the midnight curfew began, causing some children and members of the media to be hit with tear gas and rubber bullets.
Two black journalists from Complex also said that they had been racially profiled, being refused re-entry into the press area whereas white members of the press had been.
Ha. that’s a damn good question isn’t it? The answer is extremely complicated and also really fucking depressing but I’ll try to sum it up. I don’t know everything, but this is what I know.
See, in America the only people who are actually powerful are rich white men who control corporations and in turn, the entire fucking government. Everyone else who seems to be in power, is just a fucking puppet. There rich white men benefit from many things that are horrible for the American people, and also horrible for the rest of the world. These people at the top essentially “bought” the US government, which judging by what I’ve seen and read, isnt that difficult, because they act like fucking children anyway. The two party system (Democrat vs Republican) in the government led to this basically instantly and so checks and balances my ass. People at the top also control the media, which feeds the American people a whole lot of bullshit to subliminally control our views on issues, but also to keep us from seeing the big picture. The big picture being that everyone in the world is for all intents and purposes, ants under the boot that is rich white men. They fear critical thinking because they know the veil is thin. Hence all the attempts to try to discreetly censor the internet.
Oppression of black people (which this nation was built on by the way) gives them money through the prison system. They keep black people poor, uneducated, and struggling in order to funnel them into the prison system. Again, the media will vilify these people to keep the cycle going.
They also profit from war, which is why America’s military funding is not only biggest in the world, bigger than the next 25 or so countries combined, and most of those countries are “allies”. America finds every excuse to invade other countries not to “secure democracy” but for money. They more often than not control both sides off the conflict, allowing them to make profit off of both sides. This is true for 9/11, this is true for WW2, and this is true for a lot of other conflicts. You can look these up, you will find them.
I can go on talking about all the other bullshit they profit from, but essentially they profit on controlling just about fucking everything. Anyone that is even remotely a threat, is systematically oppressed. Racism, sexism, and homophobia might seem wildly different but they are born from the same seed.
So unfortunately, the answer to you question is because they dont give a shit.
this is depressing but i will say this. i believe firmly that the oppressor fears the oppressed more than the oppressed fears the oppressor, even if it doesnt seem so. as long as we as people stay aware and use their fear of our anger, our knowledge, and our determination to our advantage, i think we can turn it around.
if we ignore all this and find excuses to remain comfortable (which is what they want), then we will lose everything and we will lose it fast

1:23 AM: We literally laid in someone’s backyard for what seemed like an eternity while tanks rolled down the streets #Ferguson
1:26 AM: I’m live tweeting because there’s a media blackout. #Ferguson
1:33 AM: I’m so shaken. They’re literally just rolling around throwing tear gas into neighborhoods-not aggressive crowds. #Ferguson
1:34 AM: I was pouring milk over one guys eyes when they came back around and threw another at us. #Ferguson
1:51 AM: Let me repeat, THEY ARE GASSING NEIGHBORHOODS not crowds of protestors. There was only a few of us walking. there is no curfew, so why?]
